Joseph Rodriguez, a contestant from the 26th season of Big Brother, disclosed that producers encouraged him to identify past players whose strategies he was emulating, leading him to liken his gameplay to Dr. Will Kirby, a legendary figure and winner of season 2. Joseph’s eviction came after his ally, Quinn Martin, placed him on the block as a replacement nominee. This occurred when Leah Peters used the Power of Veto to save Quinn’s initial target, Angela Murray. This move infuriated Joseph, who pledged to target Quinn in the following week. Nevertheless, Joseph was ultimately evicted by a narrow vote of 4 to 3, losing out to Kimo Apaka.
“They prompted me that in the Diary Room,” Joseph explained in an interview with Parade. He clarified that his comparison to Dr. Will was influenced by the producers, who inquired about the players he was drawing inspiration from in his game. Joseph mentioned both Dr. Will and Dan Gheesling as his influences, stating, “That was not me being like, ‘Oh, I’m as good as them,’ or anything like that.” His intention was to win the game without securing a single competition victory, similar to Dr. Will.
Joseph Rodriguez Criticizes “Obvious Liar” Quinn Martin for Poor Decisions
Joseph Found Quinn’s Game Moves Perplexing
Despite their close alliance, Joseph was nominated for eviction by fellow superfan Quinn. Joseph expressed his frustration, saying, “Quinn really got on my nerves a lot of the time,” while acknowledging their clashing personalities, even though “he’s a nice kid.” He found some of Quinn’s choices “very puzzling, very bad,” particularly the nominations of himself and previously Cedric Hodges. Joseph further criticized Quinn as “such an obvious liar in the game,” a reputation that was established early on.

It’s noteworthy that Joseph mentioned his comparison to Dr. Will was prompted by producers, as he also discussed this with Chelsie Baham, evidenced in a clip shared on the Big Brother YouTube page. While producers might have sparked the idea, Joseph embraced it, seemingly out of admiration rather than conceit. His error, however, was not adapting to the evolved format of Big Brother 26, where Dr. Will’s strategy of avoiding competition wins was no longer viable, especially with the introduction of the BB A.I. Arena.
Curiously, Joseph labeled Quinn a liar, despite Joseph himself playing a key role in flipping the vote against Cedric after an idea from T’kor Clottey and Kimo Apaka. This blindsided the Pentagon alliance, which also counted him as a member. Although Joseph made several questionable game decisions throughout the season, his most significant misstep was choosing to throw the week 7 Power of Veto competition, which could have ensured his safety. Despite his good nature, Joseph’s strategic errors ultimately led to his eviction on Big Brother 26.
Big Brother season 26 is broadcast on CBS, with episodes airing Sundays at 9 p.m. EDT and Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m. EDT.
