During the 21st season of *The Bachelorette*, contestant Aaron Erb disclosed that the self-help book he presented to Devin Strader, titled *Principles For Self-Growth* by Dr. Brandon O. Conner, was indeed fictitious, as many viewers had suspected. Throughout this season, Aaron handed Devin a book strikingly similar to one that his twin brother, Noah Erb, received from Bennett Jordan in season 16. However, the book didn’t exist outside the show’s realm, and its purported author shared a name with a producer from *The Bachelorette*, leading to assumptions of its inauthenticity.
Both Aaron Erb and host Jesse Palmer confirmed that while the book cover was fabricated, it concealed an actual book inside, which was *The Four Agreements* by Don Miguel Ruiz.
In footage that didn’t make the cut for *The Bachelorette* “Men Tell All” episode (as shared by Bachelor Nation), Aaron and Jesse Palmer clarified that although the book cover was a fabrication, it contained the genuine book *The Four Agreements* by Don Miguel Ruiz.
Jesse remarked to Aaron that the *Bachelor Nation* audience is “quite savvy” and quickly identified the book cover as fake. Sam Nejad even noticed an error on the spine, reading “Priciples [sic] For Self-Growth.” Jesse further explained that, at the time, the show had not secured rights to display the real book, hence the cover’s blurring.
Did Alleged Producer Manipulation Ruin *The Bachelorette*?
Excessive Producer Interference in *The Bachelorette* Season 21
Producer manipulation and interference undeniably compromised the integrity of *The Bachelorette* season 21. Numerous instances suggested that producers were orchestrating events, such as Aaron presenting Devin with the book. During the “Men Tell All” segment, Aaron claimed he had forgotten that his brother, Noah, had also been given a book, which seemed implausible. This scenario, along with incidents like Jenn’s ex-boyfriend, Matt Rossi, attempting to rekindle their relationship, and the ensuing drama among the men, felt heavily manipulated.

It’s high time *The Bachelorette* acknowledged the fake nature of Aaron’s book cover. Although understandable that the show lacked permission to display the actual book’s cover, the producers should not have attempted to deceive viewers with a counterfeit cover. This only led fans to lose trust in the franchise and confirmed their suspicions of producer involvement with Aaron’s book. It becomes challenging to invest in *The Bachelorette* when much of it appears staged and insincere.
Since Aaron and Jesse were permitted to mention the book’s title and even displayed a blurred cover during the “Men Tell All” episode, a similar approach could have been taken when Aaron initially gave Devin the book. It seems the producers only admitted the truth about the book after being exposed. If *The Bachelorette* producers aim to restore viewers’ trust after years of interference allegations, they must cease such practices on the show. Aaron’s book need not have been controversial, and the producers ought to have been straightforward about it from the outset.
*The Golden Bachelorette* premieres on September 18 at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
